Try a symmetrical approach to change the perspective. Two matching armchairs placed side by side mimic the sofa and the coffee table and the shelving unit tie everything together. Also, the black and white combo suits the room really well. To save space and to also make the room feel more spacious, incorporate open shelves anywhere you can. In this case, the fireplace is wonderfully framed by shelves. We love the way the wooden ceiling stands out and the fact that the lighting fixtures don‘t overwhelm the room. This room is actually a multi-purpose space and it’s amazing how everything fits here when there‘s so little space to work with. There’s a work desk in the corner near the door, a dining table with chairs and a sofa. Shelves were integrated above the door and windows which is a very smart idea.
Regardless of the style you want to adopt, the interior design of the living room should be a perfect combination of functional and beautiful. It‘s why every little detail needs to be carefully chosen. We’re talking about color palette, pattern, texture, layout, materials and everything else.
The desire to be close to nature expressed by the clients led Fernanda Marques Arquiteto Asociados to design the living room for Loft 24-7 with stone walls, natural materials, organic colors and huge windows that open the space to the outdoors. In addition to floor-to-ceiling windows, the living room that Rolf Ockert Design created as part of the Bronte House project also has a skylight and a continuous row of highlight windows that offer 360 degree views of the stunning surroundings. This chic New York City home by Casamanara may not have super spacious rooms but it definitely doesn‘t lack character. The living area, the kitchen and the dining space are all part of the same open zone and there‘s not a lot of extra space between them. A patterned area rug helps delimitate the functions and the diverse accent colors create focal points throughout.
So you‘re not made of money and can‘t necessarily afford to implement everything your heart desires after browsing post interior design websites and magazines. Welcome to reality. It can be a struggle, certainly, to implement a look or try to recreate the feeling of a space when your heart says one thing and your wallet says another. But the good news is, whether you‘re looking to invest in high-quality pieces or you‘re working within a squeaky-tight budget (or somewhere in between), there are ways you can achieve a sophisticated, stylish look. Let‘s look to the living room to see how to mix highs and lows and come up with something waaay better than middle-ground.
