The first one is a white all-marble living room, a modern place that has beautiful furniture ans some bold accent colors. Our second choice is a contemporary space that has tiled walls and floors in a cream color. It feels big and airy, it has a media center and an unique light fixture.
The living is the most important part of the house, regardless of its size. It‘s a social area where guests are invited and where you spend most of your time when you‘re home. In most modern homes, the living room and the kitchen share an open plan which is a very smart idea. They are both social areas and by combining them you gain more space.
Just because a living room design focuses on comfort doesn‘t mean it ignores all the other aspects. This apartment in Warsaw by HOLA Design is a really good example. It perfectly combines looks and function using elegant colors, glamorous accessories and subtle but sophisticated accent details. But usually vibrant contrasts and combinations of colors and finishes work well in smaller spaces. Larger living rooms such as the one designed by Whipple Russell Architects can benefit from a more neutral and earthy palette simply because that would allow it to feel warm and comfortable. The 77 Sentosa Cove House by ONG and ONG was designed with minimal environmental impact, four levels and a central staircase and garden encased by glass walls. This pavilion is linked to the social areas and brings in light and freshness.
A wall decal can add depth to a room and make it seem bigger. Another trick you can use to your advantage. It‘s also a great way of breaking the monotony in the case of a neutral decor. In a small room, it‘s important to highlight the right features. For example, the fireplace is definitely the focal point of this room but the striped armchairs balance out the décor both in terms of color and ambiance.
