I was a bit curious the other day to find out the origins of the name ottoman used for that soft chair that does not have a back rest. I have encountered these chairs many times on the specialized web sites and I wanted to know where they came from . Apparently they have their origins in the Orient, in the a footstool that was used back in the Ottoman Empire – today’s Turkey. But if you adjust them a bit or simply use them as they are they can be very useful and comfortable pieces of furniture around the house.
